Artist Statement:
I am passionate about art and travel! My paintings have always been about color and marks - and the almost meditative process of layering different colors on the canvas, utilizing brushstrokes and/or patterns that allow the viewer to see the process that results in the finished surface.
Recently I have taken my travel photography and combined it with my previous painting techniques to create mixed media art works that are a juxtaposition of photographic images and painterly surfaces.
For subject matter I am drawn, in part, to the historical sections of European cities due to their narrow, winding streets with colorful facades, multiple textures and architectural features. My love for patterns and intricate tile work is reflected in the use of borders in many of my earlier pieces to encapsulate or highlight spaces within the work. I am currently exploring and pushing the boundaries between the photographic image and the painted surfaces of my mixed media pieces.
